About Us

Hall-Wynne Funeral Service & Crematory has been serving the Durham area community for many years. We’re thankful to be an important part of this community and will continue our longstanding legacy of helping families honor their loved ones.

In 1904, J.S. Hall and George V. Wynne established Hall-Wynne & Co. in downtown Durham. The firm relocated to its present Main Street site in 1926, to the first built-for-the-purpose mortuary in the Southeast. A Greek revival masterpiece, Hall-Wynne combines home-like, vintage surroundings with state-of-the-art facilities and services suited to contemporary needs and practices. Despite the trend of corporate consolidation, we proudly maintain our distinction as a privately owned and operated company, directly accountable to the families we serve.

Mark T. Higgins and C. Michael Poole purchased Hall-Wynne in 1992. In 2005 Michael O’Connor became a stockholder and vice president of the company. Then in October of 2019, Michael O’Connor took over as principal Owner and President of the company.

In recent years, we have become the provider of choice for many Chapel Hill, Hillsborough, and Orange County families. As such, we are able to make funeral arrangements in the comfort of your home or from our Durham office and conduct funeral and memorial services conveniently at your place of worship or other desired location.
