Winona “Winnie” Ennis

April 20, 2016 By Hall-Wynne 19 Condolences

Winona Audrey “Winnie” Merrithew Ennis died Tuesday at Croasdaile Retirement Village following a brief illness. A native of Portland, Maine, Mrs. Ennis was a Durham resident since 1960. She attended Shaw Business College in Portland and Craft Business College in Durham. Mrs. Ennis retired from Central Carolina Bank (now Suntrust) after 35 years of service as a loan officer. Following retirement she was an auxiliary volunteer at Duke Hospital for several years.

Winnie Ennis was a highly dedicated and trustworthy member of the CCB employee family, ever diligent in her business career. She was a lady of gracious manners, with a quick and dry sense of humor, and always taking pride in her appearance.

Surviving are her husband, L. Shelton Ennis; a sister, Phyllis Densmore of Westbrook, ME and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside funeral will be held 11:00 AM Monday on the Ennis family plot of Coats City Cemetery, Coats, NC. Friends may visit 2-4 PM Sunday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Gifts in Winnie’s memory may be made to a charity of choice. On-line memorials: hallwynne.com

My staff and I are so very blessed to have known Winnie for 40+ years. She was an amazing woman. She loved deeply and she so enjoyed laughter. I especially value and appreciate this last year that I shared with her and with Shelton. It was a tough year for her, but she learned to live each day as it came. When her health became more challenged, she still came for hair time each week! I cherish these years of knowing her and I will always remember how she loved me. I miss you Winnie!
Love, Linda Mangum and the staff of A New Reflection

So very sorry to hear about Winnie passing. She was a very special lady and I will never forget the kindness she showed to a inexperienced girl starting her career in banking. God’s comfort to all the family.
