DURHAM: William Allen Brantley passed away with peace and grace on Thursday with his family at his side. Bill is survived by his loving wife Gail; daughter, Kristen Cortopassi and her husband, Matt, son Geoff and wife, Christy; and grandchildren Ava, Knox and Hunter. He is also survived by his brothers, Robert and Harold; and several nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by his late parents, Lendon and Gertie Brantley.
Bill was born in Durham, graduated from Campbell University and served in the United States Navy. His loves were his family, the beach, his dogs and ice cream. His passion was the family business, DAC Awnings, that business his father had started in 1942. His employees were an extension of the family and his work can be found all across North Carolina. Bill will always be remembered as a loving father and grandfather whose greatest passion was helping others.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Tuesday from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Friends will be received 6-8 PM Monday in the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Joy Ngugi and Deborah Henning of Duke Hospice Care for their wonderful care. Memorial gifts may be made to ASPCA, apsofdurham.org or to a charity of choice. I am so saddened to hear of Bill’s passing. Even though it has been many years, I still have such fond memories of your family. Bill always had such a great personality, smile and great love for his friends. He was such a respected man and will be missed by many.

To the family of Bill, growing up in the neighborhood of Knox Street, Glendale Ave. Duke Park we all knew the Brantley’s as well as they knew all of us. Bill such a great guy, always to many of us who knew him around downtown Durham and in the neighborhood always friendly and smiling.
