Velinda “Gail” McBane Brantley passed away with peace and grace on Monday morning after a 30 year battle with Breast Cancer. Gail is survived by her daughter, Kristen Cortopassi and her husband, Matt, son Geoff and wife, Christy; and grandchildren Ava, Knox and Hunter. She is also survived by her brother, Marty; and several nieces and nephews. Gail was predeceased by her late parents, Allen Newlin and Hilda Mae; husband, William Allen Brantley; and brother Jesse.
Gail was born in Durham, graduated from Gardner Webb College and served as Financial Services Director for the North Carolina Board of Pharmacy. Her loves were her family, the beach, and her dogs. Her passion was cooking, and it was cooking that brought those she loved together. Her friends were an extension of the family and their love was her fuel for life. Gail will always be remembered as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She leaves us rich in memories and great recipes.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday from the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service. Friends will be received 5-7 PM Thursday in the funeral home.

The family wishes to thank Dr. Eric Winer of Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Memorial gifts may be made to Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Pittsboro, NC or Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation

My deepest sympathies to all of you. I had the privilege of working with Gail at the NCBOP. She was always the picture of strength, courage and grace.
Sending you prayers for comfort and healing during this time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Gail as a leasing representative when I first took over Carrboro Plaza where the NC Pharmacy Board had its office. They had been there for a number of years and received poor management. She was a staunch advocate for the Board and did not let up on me for several years. I finally got on her good side and she trusted me enough to help the Board relocate and purchase their own head quarters. She was smart, kind and supportive to me an my family!

What wonderful memories I have of Gail and her family. We spent a lot of time together growing up as her parents and mine were very close. She has always been very true to herself and very gracious. In time, we went our separate ways, hers to Durham and mine to traveling with my military husband. I was so very grateful to reconnect with her in recent years. She will be sorely missed.

So very sorry for your loss Kristen and Geoff; I first met your mom in 1969 when I started working in UNC Payroll and she became a dear friend to me. I remember fondly the wonderful times I had with she and your dad, Bill ; I remember both of your births and kept up with you guys through the years. Gail and I stayed in touch off and on over the years and always left each other with a hug and promise to get together. Am so saddened that I wasn’t in touch with her in the last year but time has a way of slipping past and we always think we will make that call or plan that visit! Please know that I will have you both in my thoughts and prayers! Sending hugs and love to you both as I loved Bill and Gail and have many, many fond memories to treasure of them.
