Posted By Hall-Wynne On December 22, 2010 @ 12:00 am In Obituaries | No Comments

Mrs. Shirley Babb Clark, 74, of Business US 64 East in Pittsboro, died December 22, 2010 at Wake Med Cary.

A native of Deep Creek, VA, Shirley was born August 23, 1936, the daughter of Hilton Bernard Babb and Esther Pyland Babb.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she was truly a “people person”, a trait that was exhibited through her work as a server for fourteen years at Macgregor Downs Country Club in Cary. Shirley also loved nature and animals – she enjoyed feeding both the birds and the deer that were frequent visitors around her house. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their motor home and taking care of their dog and two cats.

Mrs. Clark is survived by her husband, Billy Goodman Clark; daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and Mark Winstead of Cary and Melody and Lynn McCall of Holden Beach; sons, Billy “BC” Clark and Eddie Clark, both of Pittsboro; and six grandchildren.

The funeral service for Mrs. Shirley Clark will be conducted by the Reverend Ray Gooch at 2:00 pm Sunday, January 2, 2011 at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Friends are asked to only call on the family from 6 – 8 pm Saturday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

Memorials may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 8300 Healthpark, Suite 10, Raleigh, NC 27603.

There are NO words to describe how much my second mother will be missed!!! I grew up with all of you for over 35 years and still many ahead and the memories are more than a lifetime worth of wonderful times we all had. Shirley was great as a second mom and to work with in the waitress field. She will be missed so very much here on earth, but I’m sure she is now painfree and happy with her friends, many family members and Jesus.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Shirley at MacGregor Downs CC and she will always be one of my fondest memories from those days. She was fun and funny and how she loved her family. She used to borrow a formal dress from me when she and Bill went on the big trips to Florida. She was well loved by the members and staff and could she sell the heck out of the daily specials. My deepest sympathies.

We are saddened by your loss. Often we have thought of your family and the great times we had on Elmhurst Circle. The many Christmases we spent celebrating together. Shirley was such a kind and generous person. God Bless your Family, and may the Lord shine His Light upon you and give you peace.

Condolence from Bill Woods on September 2nd, 2011 12:00 am

It was just last night that I learned Shirley had passed when I was reconnected with an old friend that also worked at MDCC with us. When I think of my time at MDCC, most of my memories are of her and her contagious smile. I always looked for her and Bill’s house when I drove through Pittsboro so I could just stop and and surprise her. There’s nobody else I can honestly say I would do that to, just to see her surprised face and smile when she recognized me. We had great times working together 90-97 and working late into the night during the christmas season’s. Her love for her husband Bill, and her falmily, was no secret and she talked about them proudly. I always wished I would get a chance to chat with her again someday but it seems her time just ran out. We’ll just have to catch up later. I’ll miss her.

I had the pleasure of working with Shirley at Macgregor Downs country club in 1990. She was one of the most fun loving and nice people I have ever met. I was 22 at the time and I actually thought of her as kind of a motherly figure. She loved and embraced life in a most beautiful way. Shirley I know you are at peace now and up there with our Lord Jesus Christ. I will never forget you. Love, Jeffrey Keith.
