Jerry and I were in school together and he farmed and lived in the community where I lived for many years. I remember being in high school with Jerry and the many beach trips we had together. Jerry and I had many farming conversations. He was a special person to me. I pray that you the family of Jerry and of God can be at peace. God is in control of all things and has a plan for each of us. You will be in my prayers during this time of pain. Leigh-Bird

Jerry was a gentleman, proud of his heritage, family and who he was. I did not know that he was sick or would have visited him. Jerry had a beautiful smile, a great dancer who loved beach music/the shag and was always kind to his friends. He loved his family and loved telling stories/sharing memories about them. Jerry talked about travelling. My heart is heavy with this sad news and my prayers are with you. He will be so missed. God bless all of you as Jerry has been taken “home”.

Condolence from Jason on February 2nd, 2014 12:00 am

At NCSU, I met Jerry while we were pledging FarmHouse Fraternity together. To say that Jerry was “one of a kind” is a true understatement to how special a person he really was. He was a unique individual and I am truly fortunate along with others to have had the opportunity to be in Jerry’s presence as I did consider him true brother. Although we didn’t see each other much after college, when we did cross paths, it was like we picked up right we left off last. I will never forget Jerry as his one-liners and mannerisms will live on forever; however, I miss him dearly already. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family for their great loss, but I am comforted to know that Jerry is in a better place.

Condolence from Jason Watkins on February 21st, 2014 12:00 am

I’m saddened to learn of Jerry’s passing and sorry for your loss. May God continue to comfort you during this time.

Although I’d not spoken to him since we graduated from NCSU, I had recently heard he was in declining health. I’m not certain that you can smoke or chew tobacco in heaven but I am certain Jerry will have talked them into growing it.

I fondly remember many of day while we should have been in class but instead were on the road going to the farm shows, looking at equipment, etc. Everyone knew Jerry was in the room when you heard his distinct accent. He was always smiling, joking around and telling stories about farming in Oxford, and Otis.

Always proud to have been a Marine, and even prouder to be a Farmer. He will be surely missed by all!
