In Memorial

Matthew Charles Morton, 17, died accidentally at home Sunday. He was born May 2, 1994 in Greenville, SC. Matthew attended Person High School. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved animals and had a remarkable rapport with them and keen ability to care for them, even tending their wounds. Matthew was hard working and always looked for ways to help others. He had a great voice and aspired to be a country singer. Matthew had a heart for troubled young people, hoping to make a difference in their lives one day. He will be remembered by his family and friends as a young man who celebrated the wonders of God’s creation, was endowed with a natural curiosity and was a ray of sunshine.
Surviving are his parents, Jonna and Hugh Morton; his brother, Maxwell Morton; his sister Jessica Cehen; paternal grandparents, Linda Morton of Greenville, SC and Charles Morton of Durham.
Matthew’s funeral will be 11:00 Friday in Bethany Baptist Church, Rougemont, with the Rev. Brian Hager presiding. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Durham. Friends may visit 6-9 PM Thursday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, Durham. Memorials may be made to: the Matthew Morton Memorial Fund through direct contact with the family.

There really are no words at a time like this. I have been incredibly saddened since hearing of Matthew’s tragic passing. I pray that you are able to find some peace in knowing Matthew has moved on to a place that is more wonderful than any place we have experienced, a place where he is wrapped in love. May God wrap you in his loving arms during your time of grief. God bless!

Condolence from Karen Pearce on March 21st, 2012 12:00 am

I do not know your family but i do know your hurt and pain. I am so saddened to hear of the tragic loss of your son. My only child 18 yrs old was killed in a car wreck on 8-28-10 along with his best friend. Every day is a struggle but with my faith in God, my family, friends, and the assurance that I will see my Brantley again in Heaven i somehow make it through each day. It is a hard road to travel but know others that are on that same road understand and I will be continuously praying for you.
