Joan Patricia Phillips-Trimmer died suddenly
December 7, 2008 at her residence in Chapel Hill, NC.
Joan graduated from Wallace O’Neal High School of Pinehurst. She attended Dickinson College two years and graduated from William and Mary College. She received a Masters Degree in Health Education from the UNCCH and served as Health Educator at West Point Academy and subsequently with the US Coast Guard in New York City and Cape May, NJ. She subsequently returned to Chapel Hill, NC and worked in the Health Department of Chatham County. She was working on an advanced degree in Social Work when she died.
Joan used her musical talent in the church choir and many musical shows and performances. She was a great friend of many people and a lover of animals.
Joan is survived by her husband, Michael Trimmer; her father, Dr. Charles Phillips of Pinehurst and Greensboro; her mother, Carol Oettinger of Durham; and siblings, Janet Phillips Campbell, Charles C. Phillips, Nancy Phillips and Liz Brophy.
A private family service will be held this week; and a memorial service for her many friends will be held at the Community Church of Chapel Hill at 1:00 pm, Saturday, January 17, 2009.
In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to either Community Church of Chapel Hill, 104 Purefoy Rd., Chapel Hill, NC 27514; Chatham County Habitat for Humanity, Pittsboro, NC; or to CARE Chatham Animal Rescue and Education, Pittsboro, NC.
