Dorothy “Dot” Ray Carden, 96, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018. A private interment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Dot was born May 6, 1922 in Wake County, NC to the late Sam and Lucy Ray. She was a long-time member of Olive Branch Baptist Church in Durham prior to moving to Virginia, and later Tennessee, with her daughter and son-in-law.
She retired from Central Carolina Bank where she worked as a Customer Service Representative. Dot enjoyed being outdoors, working in the yard, watching the birds that visited her bird feeder, and traveling. She particularly loved visiting Hawaii and Las Vegas. She loved her family very much, and especially looked forward to receiving cards from her niece, Pattie Smith.
Dot is survived by her daughter, Jan Carden Lewis, son-in-law, Michael Lewis, grand-dog Bandit, four nieces and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Haywood Carden. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Lucille Miles, Clyde Clayton, Evelyn Smith and Frances Edgerton, and a brother, Samuel “Buck” Ray, Jr.
