The sorrow of the faithful is not that of permanent loss, but the tender sense of sadness that comes in saying good-bye for now to someone we love. May today’s sorrow give way to the peace and comfort of God’s love. May you find strength in the love of family and in the warm embrace of friends. Our prayers are with the family.

Skeeter was a great guy. I had the pleasure of knowing him since 1970. During our City days we also had good times at Cotton’s Cabin. He always had a bright spirit and a joke to share. My deepest sympathies to his family.

Condolence from Larry Holleman on July 9th, 2014 12:00 am

Karen and Jody,
I am so sorry to hear of Skeeter’s passing. I have so many memories of playing softball with him. He was no doubt one of the best pitchers in Durham. Even though I enjoyed playing ball with him, I sure hated to bat against him. Very much a competitor and a great sport. A real joy to be around. Deborah and I pray that God will bring you peace and comfort in this time of sadness.

I lived across the street on Grady Dr.from the Shields’ since i was 4 1971. Jody was my 1st friend, & our families quickly fell behind us in becoming friends. We spent soooo much time together, in the neighborhood & travelling as well. I remember Skeeter & Deddy buying CB’s, & talking like truckers when we’d go on family vacations – lol!! I will forever love this family, & pray for them as they mourn the loss of this sweet man. Much love to you… Jody & Karen Shields.
