Condolence from Bill and Myrna Donelan on March 23rd, 2013 12:00 am

We were sorry to learn of Barbara’s passing after a difficult and valiant fight. I’m glad to know that the children were able to get there in the past weeks. Life will surely be different without her but will go on with the fine family that you and Barbara created together. Our thoughts and prayers are with Barbara in her passing, and with you as you go forward. All best wishes and warm regards.

Gene and all the McDonald clan–Barbara was a truly special person who touched the hearts of all of us who were lucky enough to know her. I have many fond memories of sharing dinner, fine wine, basketball, stories of Siamese cats, etc. with Barbara. You were blessed with the best wife and mother possible. While I know you will miss her dearly, she will be with you always in your memories and in who you are today. I pray that those wonderful memories over time will ease the pain of your loss.

Much love,

Condolence from Marge & Joe Grills on March 21st, 2013 12:00 am

We are so thankful that we saw Barbara and Gene last month. Our best love to you all.

I first met Barbara at the summer DUMAC dinner, two months after Duke graduation, when I was the youngest, most nervous person in the room. She made me feel important then and every time I saw her thereafter. She had such a gift to make people feel special.

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your loved one. May you find comfort in the fond memories of your family member. It is comforting to know the Bible speaks of a time when “death will be no more” at Rev 21:3, 4. During your time of bereavement you can find comfort from reading the Bible.

Gene and entire clan,

I am so saddened and sorry for your tremendous loss. Barbara was as nice, lovely and gracious a woman as I’ve ever been blessed to know. You were all so fortunate to have had her in your lives, and for so long. Though it was not long enough, she remains in and with you all in so many ways. My condolences, thoughts and prayers are with you all at this time.

Mr. McDonald and Children of Barbara: I come late to this celebratory table, having just learned of Barbara’s passing. I wish to inform that Barbara had hundreds of online friends, all of whom can affirm what others here have attested: Barbara was a lovely lady in every respect. She will be greatly missed, but we had the good fortunate to interact regularly with her for 12 years.

May God grant all of you peace and comfort.
