CHAPEL HILL: Archie Wallace Copeland, 81, died Tuesday at home following a chronic illness. He was born October 4, 1935 in Raleigh to Archie Wallace and Annie (Hinnant) Copeland. Archie was a graduate of NC State University and later earned the MBA degree from UNC-Chapel Hill. He served in the US Army for 2 years. Archie spent a lengthy career in student affairs at UNC and was Director of the Student Union from 1987-92.
A dedicated churchman, Archie was a longtime parishioner of the Chapel of the Cross, where he was a member of the altar guild. He was proud to have been a volunteer with UNC Hospice. Archie was a board member of the Triangle AIDS Fellowship and a member of the Order of the Golden Fleece.
The funeral will be 11:00 AM Saturday from the Chapel of the Cross, with the Rev. Tambria E. Lee officiating. Archie will be entombed at Raleigh Memorial Park.
