Zachary Justin Hunter was born May 4, 1979 in South Korea and was adopted by Cheryl Neubert Hunter of Raleigh, NC and James Rickie Hunter of Clayton, NC. A graduate of South Johnston High school and an employee of 3C Packaging in Clayton, he was a long time Johnston County resident. Zac as he was lovingly called was known by all as a man with the kindest, most generous heart. He made all who knew him feel completely and wholly loved. Zac was born with a congenital heart defect and underwent surgery that was met with complications. Zac had his heart fully healed on June 14, 2018 at the age of 39 when he entered the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ. The world has lost one of the greatest sources of goodness in a place filled with so much brokenness. Zac will forever be missed by his parents, his brother, Jason Fechner of Faribault, MN; his sister, Catherine Fitzgerald of Wilmington, NC; and his sister, Alexis Hunter of New York, NY as well as his brother in law and best friend, Richard Fitzgerald of Wilmington, NC and his nieces and nephew, Grace, Mercy and Asher Fitzgerald of Wilmington, NC; nephew, Phoenix Fechner of Faribault MN. He will also be missed by countless other aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who all experienced the depth of his love for everyone he knew. While our hearts are irrevocably broken this side of heaven without seeing Zac each and every day, we know that his heart is completely mended and rejoicing in heaven. A celebration of Zac’s life will be on Monday, June 18th at 1pm at Summit Church (2335 Presidential Dr. Durham, NC 27703). All are welcome to come as they are to celebrate the incredible life and love of this amazing man.

Zach will forever have a piece of my heart gone with him. He was like a brother to me . All the times we spent together will forever be locked into my memory. I love him so much and will miss him terribly. I thank God for the time he had on this earth to show the love and compassion each human being should have. He is now and angel. And I know he is smiling down on all of us.

Zac was a great guy. We have known him 20+ years. He will be greatly missed and loved in Heaven. We will never forget you Zac. He took a piece of all of us with him. His heart is healed now and he is having lots of fun in Heaven. The first time I ever met Zac he made me laugh so hard. Had some good times with him and will always remember those times. Still hard that his gone. Still a shock but he is resting now and looking over all of us. Miss and love you our nephew by family.
