Posted By Hall-Wynne On May 18, 2011 @ 12:00 am In Obituaries | 10 Comments

Zachary Cole Ladd, 23, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 from a severe brain injury related to a motor vehicle accident. Zach was born in Durham, NC to Ruth Boone and the late Robert Ladd on February 10, 1988.

Zachary was an extraordinary young man who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He attended Orange High School followed by NC State where he made countless friends and memories. He had an immense passion for animals and especially small children, as well as children with disabilities. Zach enjoyed fishing and hunting with his family and friends, as well as any kind of farm work he could be a part of. He was a giver his entire life, even up until the end. He was an organ donor and doctors were able to harvest both of his lungs, both of his kidneys, his liver for research, both eyes, and tissue for up to 20 burn victims.

Zach was a true giver of life, always including everyone and making them feel welcomed. Every man dies, not every man really lives. Zach truly lived and he lives within us now, in our memories and in our hearts.

Zack is survived by his mother Ruth Boone and his step-father Tom Boone of Pittsboro, NC; sister Halston Ladd of Pittsboro, NC; grandmother Foye Cole of Timberlake, NC; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A service in celebration of Zack’s life will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 24, 2011 in the Duke University Chapel. A reception will follow at the family home in Pittsboro, 3544 Mt Gilead Church Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all gifts in Zack’s memory be made to: The Zach Ladd Scholarship, and mailed to: Suntrust Bank, 128 N. Churton St. Hillsborough, NC 27278.

Zac and Halston both attended Walnut Grove UMC Youth fellowship events several years ago. I was the volunteer youth leader at the time, and I remember Zac as an energetic and positive kid who was full of joy and shared his smiles freely with everyone he came in contact with. I am so sorry for your loss. Your family is in my prayers.

Numerous times I watched Zach show livestock and help FFA/4-H members at the Jr. Piedmont livestock show with their animals. He was always quick to step in and help do whatever needed to be done. Here’s to surrounding your family with prayers in the loss of such a fine young man.

May God bless you abundantly during this time of sorrow. I never met or have known Zach, but I will know him in my friend for the continued life he has given her with his lungs. I will pray for all of the family that you find peace and joy in knowing that Zach has given us so much through the people that live because of him.

Condolence from Charles and Betty McPherson on May 23rd, 2011 12:00 am

We are truly saddened with the loss of your precious son and grandson. It is our prayer that our Lord will comfort you during these most difficult times.

We see Sister Foy every third Sunday at our Durham church. One could tell that she loved her family, both natural and spiritual. A mother’s love was seen in Foy’s face.

May God bless and care for you always.

Love,

Charles and Betty McPherson

Halston and family,
Words cannot express how sorry I am for your loss. Zach was such a sweet young man. I use to love to talk to Zach at the FFA functions at OHS and when I would see him at the State Fair or when he stopped by the house to see Kevin. We are all thinking of you and praying for all of you during this sad time. Please know that if you need anything please call.
