William R. Guthrie, 73, of Durham died Tuesday, November 4, 2014 surrounded by his loving family. Born February 25, 1941 to the late Willie Lee and Margaret Vincent Guthrie. He worked for many years as a pipe fitter and in the HVAC business before joining his wife in owning and operating Kim Son Vietnamese in 1985. William was a communicant of Holy Redeemer Catholic in Wake Forest. He was a US Army veteran. William was an avid fisherman and enjoyed doing puzzles. He was preceded in death by his wife Ha in February.
Surviving are: three daughters, Julie Vu and husband, Jack of Raleigh, Christine Martimbeau and husband, Elliott of Charlotte, Catherine Penilla and husband, John of Raleigh; seven grandchildren, Tony, Timothy, Tyler, Dylan, William, Ian and Olivia; siblings, Robert Guthrie and wife, Barbara of Wilmington, Charles Guthrie of Hillsborough, Mary Herbowy and husband, Glenn of Timberlake, Katie Jones and husband Mike of Timberlake and John Guthrie and wife, Wanda of Efland; also survived by nieces and nephews.
The family will be present 6-8 p.m. Friday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service, 1113 West Main St., Durham, where a Rosary Service will precede visitation at 5:30 p.m. Funeral Services will be celebrated at 12 p.m. Saturday at St. Matthews Catholic Church, 1001 Mason Rd., Durham.
