Thomas William “Sonny” Moses, 85 passed away Wednesday May 14, 2014 at The Laurels of Chatham County in Pittsboro, NC.
A native of Chatham County, Sonny was born April 23, 1929 to the late Obed William Moses and Annie Maude Moses and was married to Faye Harris in 1955. He honorably served in the U.S. Army, helping to build roads while stationed in Korea. This rugged outdoorsman spent most of his life working as a logger. Sonny loved reading western novels, listening to country music, and was a huge Richard Petty/NASCAR fan. In fact, he and Faye would spend their honeymoon together watching the 1955 Daytona Beach Grand National. He and Faye were married for 58 years. Many great memories were made with family trips to Disney World, Windy Hill Beach, spending time on Lake Tillery and taking various bus tours throughout the U.S.
In addition to his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his sisters, Imogene Byrum and Mary Alice Moses; and his brother, Jerry Mathiesen Moses. He is survived by his wife, Faye; his daughters, Renee Moses Ellis and spouse, Jim Ellis of Ramseur, NC and Tamra Moses Farris and spouse, Ron Farris of Swansboro, NC; and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Ellis, Tiffany Lane Ellis, Gabrielle Lane Farris and Alexie Jules Farris.
A service to honor his life will be held 2:00PM Sunday, May 18, 2014 at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Pittsboro, NC with the Rev. Jerry Sanders and Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. A reception will follow.
