Mrs. Sallie Blalock Roller, of Oxford, NC, passed away on May 12, 2019, at the age of 92. Sallie was a lifelong resident of Granville County, most recently residing at the Whitmore Retirement Center. However, she enjoyed most of her life in beloved home on Broad Street.
Sallie was born on March 24, 1927, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Jean and Mabel Blalock and was the oldest of four children. She met her love, William Mitchell “Bill” Roller, at a USO dance and married in 1948. They welcomed their only child, Jean, in 1950. Sallie was a familiar face in Oxford for many years, working at the counter of Williams Drug Store. Sallie enjoyed gardening and tending to flowers, as well as reading magazines and cookbooks. She had a keen interest in her family history and enjoyed collecting heirlooms and antiques.
Sallie is preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her daughter, Jean Roller Slaughter and both of her brothers, Ralph Blalock and Howard Blalock.
Surviving is her sister, Elizabeth Blalock Lane, of Oxford; her granddaughter, Lori Slaughter Nichols (Chris) of Matthews, NC; her grandson, Todd Slaughter of Oxford, NC and several loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at Elmwood Cemetery on May 15, 2019 at 11:00 am, officiated by Reverend Keith Williams.
Flowers are acceptable or memorial contributions may be made in Sallie’s name to Mt. Zion Baptist Church Relay for Life, 1171 US Highway 158, Oxford, NC 27565. Make checks payable to American Cancer Society in memory of Sallie Blalock Roller.
