Condolence from Jerry Gambill on August 24th, 2015 3:06 pm

To the Roger Sump family, our thought and prayers are with you now. Sally, you and Roger were such a blessing to our family. I recall the many great times that Roger and I had golfing, talking about golfing and planning to golf. We had a fun time saying “conditions (for golf) are favorably” because conditions were always favorable to golf for fanatics like Roger and me. God Bless you. Jerry and Sue

I will miss Roger’s wry humor and friendly face. He fought very hard. Will never forget the last really fun time I had with him and you, Sally at my mom’s 90 the birthday party and sharing her passing with you two in the private dining room at Belle Meade. Susan reminded me if that one. Love you my backyard cousin!

Roger is now at peace and at rest in our Heavenly Kingdom. I will miss him terribly. We had some great times together at Sharon Golf Club, the Greensboro Open, “The Valley Basketball Court,”South 21 Restaurant and others. He had the greatest head fake the Valley has ever seen and nobody could hook a drive with more roll than him. I know in my heart that he is teeing it up in Heaven with Legs, Harry, Joe, Pepper and the whole gang. Thank you for the memories Roger …. David

To DaSumps,

I say it that way only cause I know it will be accepted for the fun in which it was intended. I was a friend of Rogers for 26 years, and to be introduced to him was to be his friend. I have not known anyone in my life that was as unassuming as Mr. Roger Sump. He was a great friend that would listen to your problems and if asked, would offer a solution. He was one of the good guys, and I shall miss him probably way more than I even realize. When I had the Pearle Vision in Greenville, I aspired to be as GOOD a store as Roger!! After hours sometimes he would call me when he closed, and rub it in that he was closed and I was still open!! Fun between friends!! Not enough time here to list all the good times I had with Roger and Sally, but rest assured they are treasured times that I will remember forever. The world has been diminished with his passing. Roger was one of those people that you can’t imagine the world without him in it. He was a dear, dear friend to me and my heartfelt condolences to Sally , Brian and Steven. Love you guys!! Roger’s memory will always bring a smile to my face.

Condolence from David Reiter , Regional Vice President, Pearle Vision on August 25th, 2015 11:55 pm

Sally, Brian, Steven and Family

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all as you celebrate Roger’s life and mourn his passing . We were blessed to know him, his kind nature and unassuming ways. He was an all-around Good Guy.

One of my treasured memories of Roger will be how I would always get a kick out of the way he would say “Mrs Dawe!” after I had said or done something that struck him as funny or what he thought was out of character for me. No one will ever call me Mrs Dawe in the same way.

Sal, Brian, Steven , may God bless you and hold you close and may your warm memories keep you comforted.

Love to you all

Dave,Betty and Drew

Mrs. Sump, Sally and Mike,

Please accept the condolences of Chris and I for your loss. Roger was truly one of the most loving and kind souls God ever made. We enjoyed all of your friendships and great times together for many, many years. Golf has always been a center piece for our leisure time—-I am eternally grateful for the gift of this game given me by Roger and you, Mike. Sally, we have know you for many years and we all had many wonderful times together, especially as we all reared our own children. Mrs. Sump, your Roger was one of my best friends and I count myself very fortunate to be able to say so—-I bet that when we were adolescents we tried your patience often, but I can tell you Roger and Mike have both proven to be wonderful sons of the highest character full of love for all–they have you to thank for the inner peace that brings……

We are sad for Roger’s passing, but celebrate his life and have strong faith he is now home.

Mike and Chris Jones

Condolence from Betty England on August 24th, 2018 6:40 pm

To the Sump Family….Time has passed but so many times, Roger’s name comes up in conversation.
He is missed. Roger helped my son when he was in middle school and was doing a paper on the
eye. My son was so proud that a man he respected took the time to help him.
Be well, know that Roger was so proud of his boys, and so proud of his wife
Our love and our thoughts go out to you. God Bless. I just wanted you to know
that Roger Sump is remembered and missed.
The England Family.
