Riley Wade DeHart, Jr., age 82, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 at his home. Riley was born in Green Bay, Prince Edward County, Virginia to the late Riley W. DeHart, Sr. and Rosella Jones DeHart.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1949 where he served his country honorably for 22 years. Upon retiring from the service he worked at Southern Bell in Durham and later at IBM-RTP where he later retired again.

Riley enjoyed spending time with his family and friends more than anything but also enjoyed traveling and fishing. He was a dedicated and loving, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He will be greatly missed.flag for web

Riley is survived by his two sons, Donald G. DeHart, Sr. of Raleigh, NC; and Darryl L. DeHart of Oxford, NC; six grandchildren, Brandie Kaczmarek, Catherine Holleman, Daniel Holleman, Donald DeHart, Jr., Nicholas DeHart and Kelly DeHart; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce DeHart and his son, Riley W. DeHart, III.

Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Friday, March 6, 2015 at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens with U.S. Navy Military Honors.

Friends may visit Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center, 101 Manning Drive, CB #7600, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

Our hearts go out to you both Don & Darryl & all the family. So sorry that we can not be with all of you during this time but due to weather conditions & our granddaughter having her baby on Friday we cannot be there in person. Our hearts will be there with all of you. Riley was one of the dearest & sweetest persons there ever was. I will miss him so much, especially @ our Meherrin Group Luncheons every month as he was so faithful about coming all the time. It was always a joy to be with him & he will always hold a very special place in my heart. Love to each of you. God bless.

So blessed to have known Daddy DeHart. He was such a kind man with a heart of gold. He made me feel loved and welcome every time I visited their home. I met Mr. DeHart when I worked for his son Darryl, one of my best friends. Mr. DeHart was a fine man. I always enjoyed seeing him & Mrs. DeHart when I had the chance. RIP sir.

I am so sorry to hear of Riley’s passing. I was unable to come for visitation/funeral due to weather and I am also sick at this time. Sinuses, but feeling terrible. Riley was a great man. You were fortunate to have him in your lives.
