Condolence from Scott and Christine DeVries on August 13th, 2014 1:36 am

We are weeping with you, sweet friends. We loved Kent very much and he was like a mentor to us and a grandfather figure to our children when we lived in Istanbul. He baptized our youngest son, Nathan, during one of the times he was in Turkey to support and encourage the church there. He loved you all (his family) so much and spoke so highly of you all. We prayed with you all through Jeline’s cancer and treatments. We were thrilled to hear that this season of life was still so full of fruitful ministry and fellowship with family. We are so thankful for his on-going encouragement to us in our ministry and his support of our work with the Turkish church. We are shocked, grieved and overwhelmed with the news of what has happened. May the God of all comfort uphold you in these days and in the times that are ahead. With much love and many prayers, Scott and Christine (on behalf of our family and the church in Istanbul, as well)

It is through a mutual friend that I learned of Kent’s life and death. What I learned of him through recollections of our friend and Kent’s own writing, showed him to be a selfless person who faced life and taught to face death with courage. His peaceful strength is truly inspiring.

My heartfelt sympathy to his friends and family.

Condolence from Donald Shoemaker on October 27th, 2014 8:48 pm

Kent and I were active together in Christian pro-life ministries. We were prayer partners when he was a pastor and I a professor at Biola University in La Mirada, CA. I will always give thanks for his personal life, convictions and friendship. His pastoral journeys inspired me and many others, I’m sure.

Pastor Emeritus
Grace Community Church of Seal Beach, California
