Shardaben D. Patel

Shardaben D. Patel, age 92, of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026 at her residence, surrounded by her loving family.

Born on October 19, 1933, in India, she was the daughter of the late Jamunaben Patel and Hirabhai Patel. 

On May 14, 1951, she married the love of her life, the late Dahyabhai Patel (October 15, 1930 – October 27, 2011). Together they built a life centered on family, faith, and devotion. 

Shardaben lived a life filled with love, kindness, and dedication. She was a devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and proud great-grandmother who found great joy in spending time with her family. A deeply religious woman, she enjoyed reading Hindu religious scriptures, watching television, and keeping in touch with family and friends through long phone conversations. Before health challenges limited her mobility, she especially loved gardening and took great pride in caring for her plants and flowers. 

She is survived by her brother, Balubhai Patel, and his wife, Kusumben, of Leicester, United Kingdom; her daughters, Nila Nathu and her husband, Nagin Nathu, of Murray, Kentucky, and Jyoti Patel and her husband, Ramesh Patel, of Durham, North Carolina; her grandchildren, Priyesh (Jyoti), Kisen (Vidya), Nirav (Priya), and Vishal; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Ian, Kaya, Rylan, Remi, Anya, and Aren.

Shardaben was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved husband, Dahyabhai Patel. 

A funeral service will be held on September 12, 2026 at 10:00 AM at Hall-Wynne Funeral Service & Crematory, 1113 W. Main Street, Durham, NC 27701. 919-688-6387.
