Sally Furr Staunton, 87, died on Friday, January 16, 2026. She was born in Johnson City, NY on May 18, 1938, to the late Curtis E. Furr and Freda Crawford Furr.
Sally graduated from the mighty Concord High where she met lifelong dear friends. She then graduated from Presbyterian nursing school in Charlotte and UNC Chapel Hill with her BSN. She worked in public health educating the unreached then later at Duke where she met Jack. She then sacrificed her career to love on her family and friends. She and Jack enjoyed Wrightsville Beach and cheering for their Blue Devils always with her favorite Coca-Cola. She stayed politically savvy and current. She faithfully attended and served at Cresset Baptist Church. She was a fierce prayer warrior and a warm delight to all that knew her. She was a very bright light in a very dark world and will be loved forever and missed by many. A special thank you needed to those at Hillcrest that took such excellent care of their Miss Sally.
Sally is survived by her devoted daughter, Jaci Staunton Pergerson of Durham; grandson, Bryce Pergerson of Durham; brother, Curtis “Chip” Furr and wife, Debbie of North Wilkesboro; nephews and niece, Steven Furr and fiancé, Danielle of Boone, Shannon Furr Ehrlich and husband, Chase of Greenville, SC, and Doup Hartley of Durham. Last, but certainly not least, she leaves behind her two devoted fur babies, Moose and Cocoa, who brought her much joy.
In addition to her parents, Sally was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Jack Staunton; her son, Len Staunton; and her son-in-law, Curt Pergerson.
