Robert Gilmer Pope, 86, died at Croasdaile Village Pavilion, Durham, NC oneecember 25, 2010. He was born May 1, 1924 in Haddoneeld, NJ, to the late George Embry Pope and Helen Gilmer Pope. Robert graduated from Lehigh Uneersity after serving as an Ensign in the Navy in the Pacific during World War II. He was Owner-Partner of W.S. Pope & Sons Cheese Company in Philadelphia while living in Haddoneeld. He was active with the Presbyterian Church and raised funds for the Camden County YMCA. He retired to Southern Pines, NC with Ann, his wife, and continued his charitable ways by assisting Habitat for Humanity in building homes in Moore County. He was a true geneeman and a loving and kind-hearted man. His caring and generosity was felt by all who loved and knew him. Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ann Tilden Pope; his sister, Jean Franz, of Bethlehem, PA; two sons, Mason Gilmer Pope and wife Kathleen of Voorhees, NJ and Richard Tilden Pope and wife Kathy of Jamestown, NC; seven grandchildren and one great grandson. Robert was preceded ineeath by his older brother, Walter Scott Pope. A memorial service will be held at William Prestoneew Chapel in Croasdaile Village oneednesday , December 29, 2010 at 2:30 PM. A private cremationeervice was held at Hall-Wynne Crematory. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Duke Homecare and Hospice, 4321 Medical Park Drive, Durham, NC 27704.
