DURHAM- Mr. Richard (Skipper) Allen Stallings, 80, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Hillcrest Convalescent Center.
Skipper was born October 3, 1945, to the late James Malcolm and Clydia Winders Stallings in Pender Co., NC.
He was a graduate of Jordan High School. He enjoyed gardening, painting, dancing, playing the piano, and going to art galleries. Skipper and Gary loved to travel to Charleston, SC. They enjoyed visiting the local art galleries, touring the homes, local gardens and historic areas. They always planned their trip to allow time to visit with their friends in the Wilmington area on the way home. He was a member of Trinity Baptist Church in Durham. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted uncle and friend.
In addition to his parents, Skipper is preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Rich, Lucille Kelly, Minnie Tripp, and Shirley Lewter; brothers, Norman Stallings and Winfred Stallings. All the brothers and sisters are now together again. What a joyous reunion that was with a lot of music, singing and dancing.
Skipper is survived by his partner, Gary Dodson Carr, and numerous nieces and nephews that he adored.
A funeral service for Skipper will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 12th at Hall Wynne Funeral Service Chapel, 1113 W Main Street, Durham, NC 27701. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery, 1836 Duke University Rd. Durham. The family will receive friends from 10:00–11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Hall Wynne Funeral Service Chapel. Officiating will be Cheryl Barton Henry.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Skipper’s memory may be made to Ronald McDonald House of Durham & Wake, Inc., 506 Alexander Avenue, Durham, NC 27705
