BAHAMA- Mr. Richard Wilburn Cates, 75, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Cates was born February 14, 1950, to the late Clyde Hogan and Evelyn McFarland Thomas Cates in Durham, North Carolina. He was a graduate of Charles E. Jordan High School. Mr. Cates worked at the Federal Correctional Complex in Butner for 20 plus years as a Locksmith Supervisor and Firearms Instructor. He proudly served his country in the United States Army where he served in Fort Jackson, South Carolina and Germany.

Mr. Cates is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Hogan Cates and Evelyn McFarland Thomas Cates.

A visitation will be held Thursday, September 11, 2025, from 12:00 to 1:45 p.m. A graveside will follow starting at 2:00 p.m. at Maplewood Cemetery. Officiating will be Perry Hardison.

Flowers are acceptable.

The family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service
