Randall "Randy" Keith Owen

Randall Keith Owen, 63, of Durham, passed away at home after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. Randy had a pure and generous heart with a great sense of humor.

Following his Dad’s lead, Randy enjoyed a long career in the food service business. When Randy was a boy, his Dad, “Ed”, would take Randy to the restaurant he managed to do prep work for the following day. Randy would go with Ed because he “loved the smell of the grease!” In high school, Randy began his career at Groucho’s Seafood Restaurant in Durham. He eventually became a manager for McDonald’s, and worked his last 25 years as the Manager for Sunrise Biscuit Kitchen in Chapel Hill. Randy enjoyed his work and took great pride in it.

Randy was preceded in death by his mother, Carolyn Elizabeth (Clark) Owen, and his father, William Edward Owen.

He is survived by his brothers, Mike (Teresa), Terry (Deb), Tim (Brenda), and his half-brother, Bryan, and devoted roommate and brother in all but name, David Cann.

Thank you to nurses, doctors, and staff at Duke Cancer Center and Duke Hospital. A special thank you for the swift, compassionate nurses and staff of Transition’s Hospice Care. God does His work through the will of His people. Everyone from Transitions Hospice who looked after Randy’s care are clearing doing God’s work.
