Durham – Rachel T. Kiljely, age 64 yrs, died in Durham, NC, on April 9, 2022. She was born in Manolu Town, Maryland County, Liberia (West Africa) on September 24, 1957 to the late William K. Brown and Eliza D. Brown.
Rachel graduated from Cape Palmas High School in 1977 Harper, Maryland, Liberia.
She received an AA degree in Marketing from Phoenix University, USA
Rachel worked as a teacher in the 80s at Fatima Elementary School, Harper Maryland, Liberia and early 90s at Big Town Public School, Hoffman Station, Harper, Maryland, Liberia.
Due to the Liberian civil war, she was exiled to the Ivory Coast in 1993 and later to Ghana in 2004. Before immigrating to the United States of America, she served as a Minister of the gospel in the True Vine Fellowship in Ghana and was affectionately known as “Ma Dorcas”.
She joined her daughter and family in 2005, Maryland (USA) and 2005 – 2012, worked at Walmart as a cashier and later transferred to Walmart in Durham, NC.
From 2013 – 2020, she worked with AMERIPARK LLC, a company contracting with Duke University Hospital, as a cashier.
Rachel was a Christian and a faithful member of the People Christian Church Durham, North Carolina where she served as the president of the Women’s Department, head of the Deacon Board, co-chair of the General Administrative Council (GAC), Sunday School Secretary, and was a Minister-in-Training (MIT), due to be ordained as a Minister of the Gospel in December 2022. She was a great mother and an awesome grandmother. She loved singing, praising and worshipping God, and supporting disadvantage youths in Monrovia, Liberia.
Rachel T. Kiljely is survived by her husband (Edward Quayie); brothers: Johnson D. Brown (Malitha), Jeremiah Brown, Shadrach Brown (Esther), J.
Gblehbo Brown (Eliza); sisters: Rosetta, Janet; daughter: Jessica Roberts-Krangar (Terence); grandchildren, cousins, nieces, nephews, foster children, and a host of other relatives and relations.
Rachel T. Kiljely was preceded in death by her parents, William K. Brown and Eliza D. Brown, her daughter Annie Tutu Nyeswah, and twelve siblings.
