Patricia Maureen Soulia, nee Monahan, age 94, passed away peacefully at her home in Durham, NC, on June 30, 2026. Pat, known as ‘Nana’ was born on November 25, 1931 in Ridgewood, Queens, to Anna (Grimes) and John Joseph Monahan. Pat was predeceased by her parents and siblings, Catherine McDonald, John “Jack” Monahan, Jr., Teresa Monahan, and Thomas “Tommy” Monahan. Pat was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Edward, in 2018.
Pat will be remembered for her quiet strength and devotion to family and the Lord. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Soulia, grandson, Michael Billy, granddaughter, Lauren Billy McDonough and Lauren’s husband, Jack. She was fondly known as “Aunt Pat’ to her loving nieces and nephews residing in New York, Virginia and Oregon.
Pat married Ed Soulia on September 12, 1954 and they welcomed their daughter, Renee, in 1962. Their honeymoon in the Poconos of Pennsylvania sparked a love for the mountains that inspired their relocation from Floral Park, NY to East Stroudsburg in 1965.
Pat enjoyed being a homemaker and volunteering, most especially at her parish, St. Matthews, in East Stroudsburg and in Renee’s schools. Pat was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and homeroom parent, where she hand sewed all of the angel costumes for the first-grade Nativity Pageant. As a supporter of Girl Scouts, Pat took on the role of Cookie Coordinator which filled the Soulia dining room with boxes of cookies!
Pat began her career as an Administrative Assistant with EF Hutton on Wall Street in the 1950’s. Following their relocation to the Poconos Pat enjoyed a long career as the Administrative Assistant supporting the Department of Elementary Education at East Stroudsburg State University.
After Ed’s retirement as the Manager of the Stroud Mall and her retirement from ESSU in 2015 they relocated to North Carolina to be closer to Renee and their beloved grandchildren. Over the years they were blessed to enjoy many baseball games, dance recitals and graduations and various family celebrations.
