Nancy Holder Miller

DURHAM, NC – Nancy Holder Miller, age 90, died on April 21st, 2026 at Croasdaile Pavilion, in the company of her loving and dedicated children. She was born on January 16th, 1936 to the late John Roscoe and Junia Elizabeth Holder.

One of six children, Nancy’s mother passed when she was very young, and she spent her childhood partially living with her grandmother and siblings. This led her to be a dedicated mother and grandmother to her family as it grew. Nancy attended Dillon High School and graduated in 1953. After graduation, Nancy lived in Orlando, Florida, where she stayed until 1994. Through her adult life, Nancy held several positions in her professional career, spending the most time working for Martin Marietta, before taking on a role as a loan administrator for First Financial until her retirement. In the 1980’s, Nancy returned to school, attending Seminole Community College for a degree in interior design.

In 1994, Nancy relocated to Durham, North Carolina. While in Durham, she participated in a master gardening program, pursuing her love of gardening and plants while expanding her knowledge and skills. A woman of a wide variety of skills and an unmatched zest for life, Nancy volunteered with Meals on Wheels, unwed mothers, and was an amazing seamstress. Nancy loved to do her own home improvement projects, and always swore that she never remarried because she could never find a mate with more tools than she had.

Nancy is survived by her daughter, June Pham (Chau); sons, Jeff Miller (Jeri), Robert Miller Jr. (Shari); grandchildren, Justin Miller, Joseph Miller, Melissa Miller, Jennifer Newbury, Holden Farr, and Josephine Pham; and 2 precious great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Nancy is preceded in death by her son, Owen Wesley Miller; sisters, June Ellen Gunter and Elizabeth “Betty” Holder Delay; brothers, J. Frank Holder, Daniel “Tommy” Holder, and Henry “Hank” Holder.

A memorial service for Nancy will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, April 24th, 2026 at the Hall-Wynne Funeral Chapel, 1113 W. Main Street, Durham, NC 27701.
