Miriam Hongsun Cho

Miriam Hongsun Cho, age 30, returned to heavenly home to be with her LORD and Savior Jesus in Pilot Mountain State Park, NC on August 23, 2021. She was born on July 4, 1991 to Pastor Yong Kyu Cho and Lydia Mikyeoung Cho.
Miriam graduated from North Hardin High, Radcliff, Kentucky (Valedictorian), Yale University with a degree of Bachelor of Art in Religious Study (Cum Laude) and Duke Divinity School with a degree of Master of Divinity concentration in Preaching (Summa Cum Laude). She also completed further academic training at Korea University, Seoul, Korea, Inter-University Center for Japanese Studies, Yokohama, Japan, Harvard Beijing Academy, Beijing, China, and Hokkaido International Foundation, Hakodate, Japan. She won numerous scholarships and awards from both academic and research areas.
Miriam was working as a freelance writer, video and audio producer, and occasional preacher. She was passionate about creating and supporting media that empowers voices often not heard. Her works bring individuals and organizations’ narratives to life through video/sound/words, while enabling people to tell their own stories. Her major projects include “Falling into the Sky” an experimental short, “New Saint” a digital portrait, and “Wutang” a documentary short. Her past employments include Duke University, Duke Divinity School, Keybridge Communication (Washington, D.C. metro area), CLS Strategies (Washington D.C. metro area), Fiona Bae, Ltd. (Seoul, Korea), Yale University Careers, and other organizations in California.
Miriam enjoyed outdoor activities including cross-country running, marathon, camping, and rock climbing. She traveled extensively visiting more than 40 countries to understand their cultures and socio-economic environments.
Miriam grew up in a Baptist family and continued her faith with open mind to other Christian faith groups and with compassionate heart to people whose voices often not heard.
Miriam is survived by her father Pastor Yong Kyu Cho and mother Lydia Mikyeoung Cho and brother Joshua Hongjin Cho. Miriam was preceded in death by grandfather Pastor Timothy Hyohoon Cho.
The funeral service for Miriam is at 10am Monday, August 30, 2021, at Duke Chapel with Dr. Jerusha M. Neal preaching. All family and friends are invited to attend.
The Cho family is under the care of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service.
