Mary Alice Crowson Stoltenberg

(Durham) – Mary Alice Crowson Stoltenberg, age 82, died in Durham NC on August 1st. 2025. She was born on October 22, 1942 to the late Cleveland and Myrtle King Crowson.

Born and raised in Alabama, Mary attended the University of Alabama where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She married Larry Stoltenberg in 1977 and moved to Iowa where she worked as a teacher before moving to Ohio and then North Carolina where she worked for many years as a Medical Laboratory Technician at Duke University hospital.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Javier) Alarcon , grandchildren Nicholas Alarcon and Nora Alarcon; brother Andrew (Joy) Crowson; and stepson Chris Stoltenberg. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Larry E. Stoltenberg, her brother, Al Crowson and her stepsons, Montgomery Stoltenberg and Randolph Stoltenberg.

Mass will be held on Thursday August 7th at 2PM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic church (801 W Chapel Hill St. Durham NC 27701) followed by burial at Maplewood cemetery.
