Mark Edward Sendzik of Durham, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2021, surrounded by his family. Mark was born on February 4, 1953 in Chicago, and received a Ph.D. in public policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago. After living in various U.S. cities, he settled in Durham in 1999, working as a public policy analyst with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
Mark was an exceptional human being who leaves countless friends both near and far to cherish his memory. Mark is loved and survived by his wife, Jan Sendzik; his brother, Tom Sendzik and wife Chris; his sisters-in-law Kris Whitmore, Victoria Drouhin and Nancy Sendzik; several beloved nieces and nephews; and his dogs Lucy and Jenny. Mark was predeceased by his mother, Christine; his father, Edward; and his brother, Alan.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Immaculate Conception Church at 11 a.m. on Monday, July 26. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Second Chance Pet Adoptions or Peak Lab Rescue.
