Marian Louise Jenkins (née Hottott) passed away peacefully in her home on April 15, 2026, in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. She was born on January 19, 1941, to James and Louise Hottott in Tacoma, Washington. She was a dedicated student and was committed to being educated from a young age. She worked to put herself through college at Washington State University where she majored in education and met her future husband Michael, an aspiring patent attorney. After finishing her degree, they married in 1965 in Seattle, Washington. She worked several jobs to support the young couple while Michael attended law school. Ultimately, they moved to Midland, Michigan, where she would live for the next 60 years.
She is preceded in death by Michael who unexpectedly passed in 1991. His death had a profound influence on her, and she continued to live independently in Michigan for many years. She loved music and could play both the piano and the accordion. She cultivated several hobbies including gardening, crafting, quilting, knitting & crochet. She often watched C-SPAN and followed politics with great enthusiasm. She turned her life as a housewife into one of a “home engineer” - constantly modifying recipes or finding clever ways to re-purpose household objects.
She is survived by her two sons, Chris [Jan (Jingyue)] and Casey [Nazema], three grandchildren, Ian, Amir & Ziyad, and two brothers, James and Michael Hottott. Her memory will be cherished at a funeral mass at 11am on Thursday, April 23, 2026 at Holy Infant Catholic Church in Durham, North Carolina. If you wish to honor Marian, contributions can be made to Dress for Success Triangle or Home To Stay in Midland, Michigan.
