Hazel Swanson

DURHAM – Margaret Hazel King Swanson, age 97, died at Duke University Medical Center on December 25, 2025. She was born on September 12, 1928, to the late Sidney Richard King and Alma Hopson King.

Hazel was born and raised in the Lowe’s Grove community. She was a faithful member of Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church her entire life. Hazel was blessed with many talents that she loved to share with others, she loved to cook, sew, arrange flowers and decorate cakes. More than anything she loved to cook a big meal for her family. Hazel also loved the many trips she took to Beaufort, NC, with family and friends. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Hazel is survived by her, husband of 71 years, Jack Swanson; son, Warren Swanson, and wife Amy of Selma; daughter, Ann Keyes, and husband Paul of Durham; her grandchildren; Haley Johnson (Eric), Kristyn Clancy (Shane), Lara Lee (Justin), and Ben Swanson (Samantha); her great-grandchildren Emeri, Chloe, Hope, Walker and Claire

She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Mary Edith King, brother Lowell King and wife Norma, and grandson Chad Swanson.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at Lowe’s Grove Baptist Church with Rev. John McGuire officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may visit from 1:00 – 2:00 PM in prior to the service in the sanctuary.
