Lois S. Jarrell, age 76, passed away on August 31, 2025. She was born on June 9, 1949, in Charlotte, North Carolina, to the late Robert Howell Sims Sr. and Iva Alwein Daetwyler.
Lois graduated from Campbell University in 1971 with a degree in Physical Education. She went on to enjoy a long and meaningful career with the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City School System, where she served as a dedicated and highly regarded Physical Education teacher for more than 35 years. Known for her passion for teaching and her encouragement of young people, Lois left a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues.
Lois had a sincere love for Jesus, and lived her faith through kindness, service, and love of family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Mark Jarrell; her son, Matthew Jarrell (companion Jessica); her daughter, Julie Forgeng (Joseph); and her cherished grandchildren, Carter Jarrell, Jenevieve Forgeng, and William Forgeng. She is also survived by her siblings, Sally Lemmond, Robby Sims, Tommy Sims (Vanessa), Calvin Sims (Harrison), and Dorothy Sims. Lois was deeply loved by her family and will be remembered by all who knew her for her warmth, generosity, and unwavering devotion to others.
Visitation for family and friends will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday September 19, 2025 at St. Matthew Catholic Church (1001 Mason Rd., Durham, NC 27712), followed by a Funeral Mass at 2:00. Inurnment will take place immediately afterward in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
