Lloyd Lee Hollis

Lloyd Hollis, 89, died on October 25, 2025. He is survived by his partner of 32 years, Patricia Ziel, his son, Paul Hollis, his sister, Martha Shehorn, and his stepdaughter, Christine Stone.

Much of his career as a computer scientist was spent at IBM where he began work in 1957 as a junior engineer and retired as a second level senior engineer in 1987. He was active in the early development of computer standards and traveled around the world for IBM.

His passion in retirement was choreographed ballroom dancing, spending time together with his partner Pat and family, and studying the stars and universe. He and Pat initially met doing Polish performance folk dances and were active for years in the Raleigh International Folk Dance festival. They spent time each week dancing together and enjoyed traveling around the country for dance clinics and conferences. Together, they explored the US, including day hikes on the Appalachian trail and hiking in NC, Tennessee, Virginia, and New York.

Lloyd is known for his humor, kindness, love, generosity, and love of teaching. He had a beautiful voice, continued to utilize his talent of electrical engineering by “fixing things” and was a kind and gentle spirit. He was loved and will be missed dearly.
