Josephine Quinn Spahic, best known as Josie, came into the world 3 months early on December 19th, 2024, weighing a whopping 1 lb. 14 oz. Such a big name for such a small baby. We learned quickly that nothing Josie would do on earth was small. We were in awe from day 1 of Josie’s strength and tenacity. The doctors said she wouldn’t grow, but she did. She defied the odds from the moment she made her grand appearance. I have always believed Josie’s superpower was Down Syndrome, it gave her extra resilience.
Josie was greeted in Heaven with open arms by many loved ones, her PopPop, Grandpa Spahic, her loving cousin Jack and her bestie Kennedy. She is survived by her loving parents Denis and Sarah, her proud big sister, Amelia. Her Mimi and grandma Nerma that adored her more than life. Her aunts Rachel, Leah, and Alisa that shouted her name celebrated her life from the start, and her many other aunts and uncles and cousins that loved her fiercely. Josie was a family favorite even though very few were actually able to meet her face to face. You could feel her magic and sense her sweet spirit through photos easily.
Josie was so incredibly wanted, loved and cherished in her life. She was fought for. She was believed in. When I was pregnant with her I told all of the antepartum doctors and nurses that she would be a NICU fav, and I couldn’t have been more right. She was blessed to have a large primary team at Duke’s NICU. The doctors knew right from the start that Josie was a gem. The usual allowed number is 4 and Josie always had at least 7. The PCICU doctors and nurses quickly fell hard for her as well. You couldn’t help but love her chubby cheeks and lashes for days. We are grateful for her life. Although 6 months will never be enough time with our girl, we will cherish the memories we have, and we will carry Josie’s sweet heart in our hearts for the rest of time. Shouting her worth will be our forever life’s mission. Until we are together again, Josie Quinn. We love you to infinity. -Mama, Dado & Sissy
