Served in the US Navy 1945-1947, attended Northwestern University, graduating with a BS in Business Administration in 1952, as well as a lifelong group of friends that cared for and support each other even to this day. Worked in the Finance Dept. of American Airlines from 1953 to 1984, moving from New Jersey to Ft. Worth TX with the company’s move in 1979. Moved to Chapel Hill NC area in 1989. Jack was a member of St. Thomas More Church in Chapel Hill. He loved to travel, play tennis and golf, and watch just about any sport he could find on TV. He volunteered on parish committees and for Meals on Wheels. He enjoyed keeping tabs on New York things and the business world through The New York Times.
Married three times, he was widowed twice, and leaves wife Carolyn Hosler Slavin and her children Mark, Karen, Susan and Kendra, a stepson Tom from his first marriage, and stepsons Brian and Mark from his second marriage, as well as many nieces and nephews. We will all miss his humor, his curiosity, his thoughtfulness and friendship.
A memorial mass will be held for Jack at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at St. Thomas More Church, 940 Carmichael St. Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Following the mass, Jack will be placed in the church columbarium.
