John “Casey” Moore May 3, 1960 – July 23, 2025 Raleigh – John “Casey” Moore, 65, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 23rd, at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill. Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Casey was the son of the late James Alva Moore and Helen Casey Moore.
Casey spent much of his childhood in New Jersey, where he played football for Manasquan High School and loved surfing along the Jersey Shore. That love for the ocean eventually led him to North Carolina, where he built a life, and raised three children whom he loved.
If you knew Casey, you knew he didn’t take life too seriously. He always had a joke ready, usually with a grin and a twinkle in his eye. He loved to laugh, loved to make others laugh, and made sure every conversation had at least a little humor in it. He was happiest on the golf course or watching sports—especially his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. And if a political conversation broke out, you could bet Casey had thoughts to share. He loved talking politics just as much as he loved talking sports.
Casey is survived by his children, Kellen Moore of Charlotte, Jonna “Zack” Moore of Whitsett, and Cam Moore (Sarah), of Raleigh; his children’s mother, Paula Bass Moore; siblings, Jim Moore (Paula), Helen Cooper, Margaret Condron (Christopher), Martha Benson (Bob), Mary Anne Forrester (George), and Scott Moore; and sisters-in-law Geryl Moore and Mary Etta Moore.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings Virginia Moore, Joe Moore and Clark Moore; and brother-in-law Cliff Cooper.
A celebration of Casey’s life is being planned and will be announced soon. In the meantime, we invite you to remember him by sharing a story, telling a joke, hitting the golf course, or cheering on your favorite team—just the way he would’ve wanted.
