James Edwin Cunningham III

(DURHAM, NC) -Beloved son, brother, and friend. 

James Edwin Cunningham III passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026. He studied photography at Durham School of the Arts (2011) and graduated Magna Cum Laude from NC Central University (2016). James earned his Eagle Scout Award with Troop 405 at St. Mathew Catholic Church in Durham, NC. 

He is survived by his intended fiancée, Sarah Watson and their 2 dogs Henry and Ollie, his mother Renee and father James II (Beverly Hills, FL) and brothers Clint and Hunter (Durham, NC), Robert (Barnesville, MN), and grandfather James Cunningham (Goldsboro, NC) and grandmother, Kathleen Cunningham (Loma Linda, California.)

A funeral Mass for James will be held at 1:00pm on Tuesday, September 8th at St. Matthew Catholic Church, 1001 Mason Rd. Durham, NC 27712. The Rite of Committal will immediately follow Mass in the St. Matthew Catholic Church cemetery.
