DURHAM, NC – James Raymond “Jim” Becker, 80, passed away peacefully on October 26, 2026, with his daughters by his side. A devoted husband, father, and proud Papa, Jim will be remembered for his humor, perseverance, and steadfast love for his family.
Born on September 4, 1946, in Elk River, Minnesota, Jim proudly served in the United States Army before beginning a 30-year career at Pitney Bowes. Not to be deterred by retirement, he continued with another career at Wegmans. He was also a faithful parishioner and dedicated usher at Blessed Sacrament Church in Syracuse, New York.
Family was at the heart of Jim’s life. He worked tirelessly to provide for his children, often holding two jobs and working seven days a week. He asked for little recognition; knowing his family was cared for was his reward. Through his example, he taught his children the value of hard work, loyalty, and showing love through everyday actions.
Jim’s sense of humor brought laughter to family life. His quick remarks, funny sayings, and unmistakable expressions became familiar favorites “dad jokes” long before anyone called them that. His family will carry those words forward, finding joy while sharing the jokes and stories.
He had a lifelong enthusiasm for cars, trains, and auto racing, along with a knack for fixing things. Understanding how something worked, and getting it working again, gave him great satisfaction. He also enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy!, an evening tradition with his family in his final years.
Jim was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Becker; his son, Joseph Robert Becker; his parents, Raymond and Maxine Becker; and his sister, Patricia Becker.
He is survived by his daughters, Kristin Sangha (Harry) and Tricia Becker, and his five cherished grandchildren, Alexander, Sofia, Dev, Harry, and Ari, who lovingly called him Papa.
To his daughters, Jim leaves an enduring example of strength, generosity, and unconditional love. To his grandchildren, he will always be their one-of-a- kind Papa.
His family is deeply grateful for the years they shared and finds peace in knowing he was surrounded by love in his final moments. His memory will live on in their stories, their laughter, and the care they offer one another.
May he rest peacefully, knowing how deeply he was loved.
