Hugh Wade Gresham, a long-time resident of Durham, North Carolina, passed away June 25, 2025, at the age of 82.
At the heart of Wade’s life was his marriage to Kay, his wife and closest companion. They were steadfast partners who supported one another in every way. Wade and Kay shared a deep, enduring bond built on love, mutual respect, and joy in each other’s company.
Wade brought energy and laughter into each day. He had a gift for making any room warmer through humor, curiosity, and kindness. He made people feel seen, encouraged, and appreciated.
He mentored countless younger professionals and colleagues over the years, offering honest guidance, steady encouragement, and his belief in their potential. Wade was also active in Rotary and engaged in community service, always eager to show up for others.
A devoted Christian and a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, Wade found both spiritual meaning and wonderful friends through his faith. He also served for many years as Treasurer of the Episcopal Diocese of North Carolina, bringing humility, diligence, and heart to his leadership.
Wade loved to work and gave his full energy to building businesses, forging partnerships, and creating lasting networks that reflected both his vision and his values. Throughout his career, he led numerous successful ventures and was recognized for his innovative thinking and inspiring leadership.
He attended Wake Forest University and earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond, then completed his MBA at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
Wade is survived by his wife, Kay; his daughter, Laura Clark (Larry) of Raleigh, NC; and his beloved pets, Barker and Pixie. He was predeceased by his parents, Hugh Gresham and Elizabeth Arthur.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Pavilion at Croasdaile Village, as well as Lavern Allen and Kenny Gooch, for their incredibly loving and attentive care.
A service will be held Saturday, July 5, 2:00 pm, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 1737 Hillandale Rd, Durham. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Luke's are appreciated.
