Faynelle Fonville Currin Spears, a beloved mother, grandmother, and cherished member of her community, peacefully passed away on August 16, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born on March 3, 1932, in Durham County, NC, to the late James Madison Fonville and Vara Delma Johnson Fonville.
Faynelle was a woman of remarkable character and strength, leaving an indelible mark on the lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as her loving husbands, Hal Anciel Currin and Frank Maynard Spears. She also mourns the loss of her siblings, David Louis Fonville and Evelyn Joyce Fonville Wilson.
Survived by her children, Tony Currin (Faye), Tim Currin (Ronda), Rodney Duke (Keith), Todd Currin (Cathy), and Susan Varner (Greg), Faynelle's legacy lives on through her family. She adored her 6 grandchildren, Madison Currin (Ashley), Matthew Currin (Jessica), Gregory Varner, Misty Currin Woodward (Travis), Dana Currin Cortwright (Jeff), Sabrina Carroll and Autumn Varner and her beloved great grandchildren, Parker, Finley, Grayson, Elizabeth, Emmaline, Andrew, Evan, Raegan, Addelynn, and Shahane. Her care extended beyond bloodlines, touching the lives of her extended family members, friends, and loved ones, including Robin Wilson, Sue Grissom and Phil Fonville.
A funeral service in memory of Faynelle will be held at Hester Baptist Church on Sunday, August 20, 2023, at 2:30 pm with Dr. Rev. Jeff Hensley officiating. The family will be available to receive guests for visitation in the Church Parlor from 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm on the same day. Faynelle will find her final resting place in the Hester Baptist Church Cemetery following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Faynelle's honor to Hester Baptist Church, PO Box 964, Oxford, NC, 27565, or to the Richard H. Thornton Library, PO Box 339, Oxford, NC 27565.
