Dorothy Giles (“Dot”) Turner, age 87, passed away at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina, on June 20, 2023. She was born in Trion, Georgia on December 10th, 1935, to the late John Henry Giles & Myrtis Giles, and grew up in Dayton, Tennessee.
Dot was the valedictorian of her high school and graduated from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. She began her career as an elementary education teacher. She found her true vocation, after earning a Master’s Degree in Secondary School Counseling , as a high school guidance counselor. She was passionate about guiding high school students towards their future educational and life goals.
She was an enthusiastic Tennessee Volunteer sports fan, especially of the football and Lady Vols basketball teams, attending and watching games. She loved spending time with her many friends and family, especially her son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Don (Karen) Turner, three grandchildren she adored: Evan (Kim) Turner, Abby (Hunter, and great-grandson Eli) Cox, Erin Turner (Perry Dickson), and sister, Barbara McDonald. She was preceded in death by her sister, Carolyn Reasons.
A memorial service will be held 2:00PM, Sunday, July 2nd 2023, at Croasdaile Few Chapel with Rev. Laurie Hays-Coffman officiating.
