Daniel Jason Closs

Daniel Jason Closs, 49, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at Duke Hospital in Durham NC on 4/27/2026. He passed away following a prolonged and courageous battle with mulit-organ failure. Daniel was born April 1, 1977, in Jacksonville FL, to Richard I Closs and the late Virginia Rainey Closs.

Daniel attended Duval County Public Schools and graduated from Samuel Wolfson HS with the Class of 1994. While in HS Daniel participated in varsity football and drama. He participated in all stages of Boy Scouts of America, culminating in attaining the rank of Eagle Scout. He worked for K3 Enterprises, Inc., as a 3D modeler and CAD draftsman for ten years. Daniel graduated from The Art Institute of Raleigh-Durham with a BS and entered the restaurant management field. He worked for Kickback Jack's until his health prevented it.

Daniel is survived by his father, Richard I Closs and his step-mother, Barbara Closs of Amherst NH, his brother Duane Closs of Seattle, WA, his nephew, Alexander Closs of Medford, MA, his stepbrother, James Dramis of Middleburg, FL, and his step-sister, Jennifer Henderson of Ponte Vedra Beach, FL. He is also survived by his former wife, Genea Cone Closs, with whom he had a long marriage and a continuing friendship.

Daniel was predeceased by his mother, Virginia Rainey, his grandparents, Duane and Uldeen Closs and R.C. and Carolyn Rainey, and his sister-in-law, Melody Sanders Closs.

Funeral arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne of Durham NC and burial will be in Amherst NH. Services are private. Memorial gifts to any organ transplant program of your choice are appreciated.
