Carol LoManto, age 85, died at home in Durham on May 21, 2026. She was born on June 13, 1940 to the late Anna Schadegg and Robert Kohns.
Carol grew up in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, and graduated from Fair Lawn High School. After high school, she attended Upsala College in East Orange, New Jersey. Carol worked many places since she began working as a young teenager, including Esso, Allied Chemical, Prudential Insurance and Financial, and CCB. She retired from SunTrust Bank in 2013, where she was the executive assistant to the president of the bank.
Carol was an excellent cook who enjoyed entertaining and welcoming people into her home. She loved gardening, good wine, long conversations and spending time with her daughter and granddaughter, whom she adored. Along with her husband, Carol enjoyed watching British mysteries on PBS and traveling, especially taking Sunday drives to discover new places.
As a lifelong supporter of the Girl Scouts, Carol was a dedicated Brownie and Girl Scout leader when her daughter was young. She was also devoted to her Episcopal faith and belonged to the Altar Guild when she lived in New Jersey.
Along with her beloved husband of 31 years, Orlando, Carol is survived by her daughter, Erika Gavin, and granddaughter, Tessa Marinello, of New Hampshire. She is also survived by her stepsons John LoManto, of New York, and Joseph LoManto, of New Jersey, and their families.
A funeral service for Carol will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, June 5th at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, 82 Kimberly Dr. Durham, NC 27707. There will be a time to pay your respects and visit with Carol's family from 10:00-10:45 am prior to the service in the church parish hall. She will be entombed at George Washington Memorial Park, 234 Paramus, NJ 07652.
