Cary, North Carolina - Beverly Wolford Karrenbauer, 87, passed away peacefully at WakeMed Cary Hospital on Sunday, November 30, 2025. Born August 5, 1938, to the late Dr. Clarence Frederick Wolford and Thelma MacArthur Wolford, Beverly dedicated her life to education, leadership, and the advancement of early childhood learning.
Throughout her distinguished career, Beverly served as Superintendent for grades K–3 in the Miami-Dade County Public Schools system, where she championed instructional excellence and early developmental pedagogy. She went on to spend the final fifteen years of her professional life as an elementary school principal in Miami Beach, Florida. She authored several works on early childhood education and earned her Ph.D. in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. Beverly’s passion for writing, learning, and child development shaped generations of students, families, and educators in mentorship.
Beverly’s greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her son, Raymond Joseph Karrenbauer III, and his wife, Dr. Camtu Karrenbauer, of Cary, North Carolina; and her four beloved grandchildren: Raymond Joseph Karrenbauer IV of Scottsdale, Arizona; Alexa Karrenbauer of Portland, Oregon; Amanda Karrenbauer of State College, Pennsylvania; and Ava Karrenbauer of Cleveland, Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Joseph Karrenbauer Jr.; her sister, Margaret J. Wolford; and her brother, C. Fred Wolford.
