Born on September 15, 1933, in Durham, North Carolina, Betty was the daughter of the late Jewel Roosevelt Keith and Jeffie Josephine Collins Keith.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Betty was a devoted member of Roberson Grove Baptist Church. Her favorite source of comfort was the promise found in Scripture: “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13). Her steadfast faith guided her throughout life's joys and challenges and served as an inspiration to her family and friends.

Betty was known for her warm and loving spirit, her passion for baking, and her well-known sweet tooth. She found great joy in preparing treats for family and friends, creating cherished memories around her kitchen table. She enjoyed reading romance novels, playing countless games of solitaire, crocheting, and working crossword puzzles. Betty had a remarkable sense of humor and an infectious laugh that would shake her whole body and leave everyone around her laughing right along with her. Her joy was genuine, her love abundant, and her presence a gift to all who knew her. Her kindness, faith, and unwavering devotion to her loved ones will be remembered always.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Excell Walker; her daughter, Mary Amanda Faircloth; her half-brother, Floyd Green; and her sisters, Levonda Marie Keith, Joyce Ann Hancock, and Jewel Lee Blake.

Betty is survived by her daughters, Levonda “Bonnie” Kemp and Wanda Walker Drane; her grandchildren, Mindy D. Campbell and husband Brian of Durham County, Morgan D. Cleaver and husband Chris of Granville County, and Amy L. Kemp of Wake County; and her six great-grandchildren, Tristan M. Rogers, Emma K. Rogers, Lennon J. Campbell, William “Will” J. Cleaver, Alivia R. Cleaver, and Noah T. Cleaver, each of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride.

Her family will cherish the many memories of her love, faith, and gentle presence, which will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
