DURHAM – Ann Gordon, age 99, died in Durham, North Carolina surrounded by her family on November 17th, 2025.
She was born on February 23rd, 1926 to the late William and Eleanor Mckenzie. Ann was born in Scotland where she resided with her family. They settled in Buckie, a small fishing village where she worked as a trained secretary at Jones Shipyard. She was a leader in the girl guides. Ann enjoyed many activities including going to dances at the Fishermans Hall and playing badminton. She was an active member in her local methodist church. She met William, her husband at the badminton club and they were married on March 28th, 1955. They lived for a brief time in Poole, England before returning to Scotland to be closer to family. They lived near the ocean which was Ann's favorite part. They immigrated to the United States in 1967 where Ann worked as a Nursing Aide in the local hospital as well as a Teachers Aide for her daughters' schools. Ann and William moved to North Carolina for retirement and were very involved grandparents. Ann had many hobbies including knitting and crocheting, baking, spending time with her grandchildren and reading.
Ann is survived by her husband William Robert Gordon, her two daughters, Eleanor Latorre and Heather Preiss, her brother William Mckenzie, as well as her four grandchildren- Victor Latorre, Amanda Wirtz, Robert Preiss and Brittany Preiss.
A visitation will be held on Friday, November 21st at 1:00 PM at Hall-Wynne Funeral home. A service will be held after in the chapel adjacent to the funeral home at 2:00 PM to honor the life of Ann.
