Alice Elizabeth Huber

Alice Elizabeth Jones Huber (Betsy) passed away on April 13 at the age of 68. She was born on Oct 18, 1957, in Schenectady, NY to the late Guy Thomas Jones and Alice Kerchner Jones.

Betsy graduated from Sanderson High School in Raleigh, North Carolina, in 1976. While in high school and while working as the Easter Bunny at Crabtree Valley Mall, she met Jim. They were married three years later, in 1979, at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Raleigh, where Betsy had grown up. She continued her education at Peace Junior College and later at Meredith College, earning a degree in Art in 1980. Following graduation, Betsy worked as a graphic artist for a government contractor in Research Triangle Park.

Betsy loved to cross-stitch and was proud to have won ribbons for her work at the North Carolina State Fair. Her talent and generosity were well known among family and friends, many of whom treasure the beautiful, cross-stitched gifts she created over the years.

Betsy had a deep love for her family and was deeply committed to them. Jim, Nicholas, and Ryan—and their families—brought her great joy. She had been a member of Triangle Grace Church in Durham, NC, since 1990 and will be laid to rest in the church’s columbarium.

In December 1997, Betsy was diagnosed with a brain tumor. Throughout the years that followed, her husband, Jim, remained her devoted and steadfast caregiver.

Betsy is survived by her husband of 47 years, James (Jim) Nicholas Huber, Jr., her sons, James Nicholas Huber, III and Ryan Thomas Huber (Katie Price Huber), her three grandsons, Lucas Huber & Cole Huber, and Thomas Huber, and her sister, Julie Edwards (Blake).

A memorial service for Betsy will be held at 11 am, Saturday, April 25, at Triangle Grace Church in Durham, NC (5001 Tudor Place).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Betsy’s memory may be made to Triangle Grace Church, whose kindness, love, and support have meant so much to the Huber family over the years.
